- 1โ2 tablespoons flour
- ยฝ cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- ยฝ teaspoon dried thyme, optional
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large deep skillet or sautรฉ pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 5โ7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
- Add the diced onion and cook for 3โ4 minutes, until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Drain excess grease from the skillet if necessary.
- Add the butter and stir until melted.
- Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir well. Cook for about 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Add the milk, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and optional dried thyme. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Add the egg noodles directly to the skillet and stir to make sure they are mostly submerged in the liquid.
- Cover and simmer for 8โ10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the noodles are tender and have absorbed some of the sauce.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the sour cream until smooth and creamy.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and black pepper if needed.
- Let the noodles rest for 2โ3 minutes so the sauce can thicken slightly.
- Serve hot and enjoy.
Notes
- Use 85/15 ground beef for a flavorful and juicy result, draining excess grease if necessary.
- Add the flour before the liquid to help create a smooth, creamy sauce.
- Stir the noodles occasionally while they cook to prevent them from sticking together.
- If the sauce becomes too thick, add a small splash of beef broth or milk.
- Stir in the sour cream after removing the skillet from the heat to help prevent curdling.
- Worcestershire sauce adds savory depth and complements the beef.
- For extra flavor, freshly cracked black pepper works especially well in this creamy sauce.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Reheat gently with a splash of milk or beef broth to loosen the sauce.
