This Alabama BBQ Chicken Chopped Sandwich is a bold, crunchy, and tangy Southern-style sandwich made with crispy chicken tenders, fresh veggies, pickles, and creamy Alabama white BBQ sauce piled into toasted hoagie rolls.
Ingredients
- For the sandwich:
- 6โ8 crispy fried chicken tenders
- 3 cups chopped romaine lettuce
- 1/2 cup dill pickles + a few splashes of brine
- 1/4 cup sliced red onion
- 4 hoagie rolls (soft sesame preferred)
- 4 tablespoons butter (for toasting rolls)
- Alabama White BBQ Sauce:
- 1 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons creamy horseradish
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or less)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the Alabama white BBQ sauce by whisking all sauce ingredients together until smooth. Chill until ready to use.
- Slice hoagie rolls and spread butter on the inside. Toast in a skillet until golden and crispy.
- Chop fried chicken tenders into bite-sized pieces.
- In a bowl, mix lettuce, pickles, a splash of pickle brine, and red onion.
- Add chopped chicken and drizzle with Alabama white BBQ sauce. Toss lightly to coat.
- Fill toasted hoagie rolls with the chopped mixture.
- Drizzle extra sauce on top if desired.
- Serve immediately while crunchy and warm.
