Ingredients

  • For the Meatballs:
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • For the Gravy:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Mashed Potatoes:
  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) if baking meatballs.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Form into meatballs.
  3. Cook meatballs in a skillet over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Set aside.
  4. For the gravy, heat olive oil in the same pan. Add sliced onion and cook until softened.
  5. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Stir in cornstarch slurry and simmer until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Return meatballs to the gravy and simmer for 5โ€“10 minutes.
  8. For mashed potatoes, boil potatoes and garlic in salted water until tender. Drain.
  9. Mash with milk, butter, salt, pepper, and parsley until smooth.
  10. Serve meatballs and gravy over garlic herb mashed potatoes.

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of heavy cream to the mashed potatoes.
