Description

This Hot Honey Beef Bowl is a flavorful and easy weeknight meal. Tender sirloin steak is cooked with onions, bell peppers, and a sweet-spicy honey sauce, served over fluffy white rice with fresh toppings.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp hot honey (or more, to taste)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • Lime wedges, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Cook rice according to package instructions with water and a pinch of salt.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced steak and cook until browned, then remove from skillet.
  3. In the same skillet, sautรฉ onions, garlic, red and green bell peppers until softened.
  4. Add diced tomatoes, beef broth, soy sauce, honey, hot honey, smoked paprika, cumin, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5โ€“7 minutes.
  5. Return steak to skillet and stir until heated through and coated with sauce.
  6. Serve the beef mixture over cooked rice. Top with shredded cheddar, chopped cilantro, avocado, lime wedges, and sesame seeds if desired.
