Ingredients

  • 2 large chicken breasts, split lengthwise into thinner pieces (or 4 medium/small breasts)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Kosher salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon chicken base (such as Better Than Bouillon)
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ยฝ teaspoon onion powder
  • ยฝ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • ยฝ cup water
  • ยผ cup heavy cream (optional)


Instructions

  1. Season chicken breasts with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sear chicken breasts until golden brown on both sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour, onion powder, and garlic powder to make a roux. Cook 1โ€“2 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. Gradually whisk in chicken stock and water until smooth and thickened.
  5. Add chicken base and stir to combine. Return chicken to skillet and simmer for 10โ€“15 minutes until fully cooked.
  6. Optional: Stir in heavy cream for extra richness and creamy texture.
  7. Serve warm over mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side.
