Description

Gooey Chocolate Earthquake Cake is an indulgent dessert for chocolate lovers. Layers of rich chocolate cake, cream cheese, cherries, and chocolate chips come together in a decadent, gooey treat thatโ€™s perfect for special occasions or chocolate cravings.


Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup cherry pie filling or whole pitted cherries
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1/4 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 225 g cream cheese, softened


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix chocolate cake mix, flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, salt, eggs, vegetable oil, and buttermilk until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the batter into prepared baking dish.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese over the batter and sprinkle chocolate chips, cherries, coconut, and chopped nuts evenly.
  5. Pour the remaining batter over the top and gently spread to cover.
  6. Bake for 45โ€“50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm for gooey texture.
