Gooey Chocolate Earthquake Cake is an indulgent dessert for chocolate lovers. Layers of rich chocolate cake, cream cheese, cherries, and chocolate chips come together in a decadent, gooey treat thatโs perfect for special occasions or chocolate cravings.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup cherry pie filling or whole pitted cherries
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup coconut
- 1/4 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 225 g cream cheese, softened
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix chocolate cake mix, flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, salt, eggs, vegetable oil, and buttermilk until smooth.
- Pour half of the batter into prepared baking dish.
- Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese over the batter and sprinkle chocolate chips, cherries, coconut, and chopped nuts evenly.
- Pour the remaining batter over the top and gently spread to cover.
- Bake for 45โ50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
- Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm for gooey texture.
Notes
- Use dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips for richer flavor.
- Add a drizzle of hot fudge or chocolate sauce before serving for extra indulgence.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
