Description
Easy Cheesy Meatball Subs are a hearty and comforting sandwich made with juicy homemade meatballs, rich marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella and provolone cheese, all served on toasted sub rolls. Perfect for family dinners or game day.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or beef/pork mix
- ยฝ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- ยผ cup grated onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ยพ tsp salt
- ยฝ tsp black pepper
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 4 hoagie or sub rolls
- 1 ยฝ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 slices provolone cheese (optional)
- ยผ cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp butter (optional, for toasting)
- Fresh basil or parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Form mixture into meatballs (about 1โ1.5 inches).
- Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 18โ20 minutes until cooked through.
- Heat marinara sauce in a saucepan and add cooked meatballs. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Optional: Spread butter on rolls and toast lightly in oven.
- Place meatballs in rolls, spoon extra sauce over top.
- Top with mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan.
- Return to oven for 3โ5 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- You can prepare meatballs ahead of time and freeze them.
- Serve with a side salad or fries for a complete meal.
