Description
Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts are a heavenly mashup of apple fritters and waffles, topped with a sweet vanilla glaze. Crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, these donuts are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a special treat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups peeled, diced tart apple (like Granny Smith)
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- Vanilla Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2โ3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For dusting: Extra powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat a waffle iron and lightly grease with non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, beat eggs with granulated sugar, brown sugar, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined. Gently fold in diced apples and optional nuts.
- Pour batter into preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove waffles and cut into donut shapes using a round cutter.
- Prepare the vanilla glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over donut waffles and dust with extra powdered sugar if desired.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
