This Amish-Style Apple and Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal is a wholesome, cozy breakfast. Rolled oats are baked with sweet apples, warm spices, and a rich custard for a comforting start to your day.
Ingredients
- 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1ยฝ tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- ยผ tsp ground nutmeg
- ยพ tsp salt
- ยฝ cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 2ยฝ cups milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 tbsp melted butter or coconut oil
- 2-3 large apples, peeled and diced (Honeycrisp or Gala)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix oats, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and brown sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter or coconut oil.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir until combined. Fold in diced apples.
- Pour mixture into prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the oatmeal is set and lightly golden.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Optional: drizzle with maple syrup or sprinkle with extra cinnamon.
Notes
- Choose firm apples that hold their shape when baked.
- This casserole can be made the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
- For added crunch, top with chopped nuts before baking.
